Within prison LEAP students often discover for the first time their own power to change their lives. The LEAP program arms students with personal and business skills to re-enter society. While LEAP steps in to provide housing and job opportunities, no program can outmatch the impact of a supporting community. When you ask LEAP graduates what made the biggest difference in their success post-release, they point to a welcoming community that treated them as equals and as friends.
Storytelling is a powerful tool to connect on our humanity and to realize that just like our LEAP graduates, we’ve all benefited from second chances. LEAP and The Thumb Fighter are bringing together South Florida locals for an evening of storytelling. Attendees will have the opportunity to share a 5 minute personal story of a time when they got a second chance. It doesn’t matter how big or small, we all have a story of a time when we got another shot.
