This will be an opportunity for us to acknowledge our differences but also our shared values, framed around our 7 UU Principles. The Copper Door B&B and Ana Sofía Peláez, author of the James Beard-nominated The Cuban Table, come together for a Cuban inspired lunch and conversation about the cultural differences that keep us apart and the city that needs us to come together. This connection experience is necessary in South Florida because it incorporates how important cultural diversity is and how they make up who we are in our communities.

MCCJ challenges all of us to embrace Miami’s diversity and build an inclusive community by asking a person who you see everyday but do not know their story to grab a bite to eat. This can be a co-worker, a neighbor, a person who works at a business that you frequent, or even someone you ride the elevator with everyday but have never spoken to. Engage with the community and help build bridges so we can all love loudly.
Many times, even among Asians, there are misconceptions and stereotypes about what it means to be Asian. By creating a safe environment, we are allowing a space for these seemingly "silly" questions to be addressed and for us to embrace the differences that divide us. The National Association of Asian American Professionals along with SoFlo Asians, Asian American Advisory Board - Miami Dade County, and Chopsticks House are inviting all local south Floridians to learn more about Asian professionals' points of views on issues throughout our region. Come and listen to us share what are our challenges are and how we overcome them. The panelists will hold different professions and be from various parts of Asia. We welcome questions from the participants and hope that the discussions create an understanding that bridges diversity and compassion for inclusion.

Sea-level rise and other climate change impacts pose growing problems for South Florida communities. Engaged residents are starting to rise to these challenges, with mitigation and adaptation efforts in their neighborhoods and cities. UM researchers are learning more about what new challenges a changing climate may bring. Neighbors, come talk with UM researchers to learn more about their work and what it means for us. Scientists, come brainstorm questions that your community wants answered. Open to all South Floridians who want to be part of applying science toward solutions; no prior knowledge required.
Homegrown Narratives LLC is bringing together social entrepreneurs of color to play an interactive storytelling game where everyone will be encouraged to share their story and connect in our shared humanity. For far too long, social impact entrepreneurs of color have had their stories told for them by the media, by stakeholders and by others. It's time social impact entrepreneurs of color reclaim their own narratives and tell their own stories.
“From Sinai to Selma,” will explore the shared history and achievements of the Jewish and African-American communities. The Children’s Services Council and the Jewish Federation of Broward is bringing together South Florida locals for the screening of the film, From Swastika to Jim Crow, which illuminates the story of Jewish intellectuals who escaped Nazi Germany and then faced anti-Semitism in the U.S., only to be embraced by Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the segregated South. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion that covers the history and present-day collaborations among Jews and African-Americans in Broward.

Through our Teacher Appreciation Happy Hour, we are bringing together Miami-Dade County educators and community organizations for a Happy Hour at the PAMM with the goal of discussing ways to improve education in Miami, highlighting local programs that support teachers, and celebrating national teacher appreciation week.
The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women is bringing together Miami locals who care about women's rights for a roundtable discussion about the hot topics affecting women at the national, state, and local level. Women are a majority of the population in Miami-Dade County and the most recent 2019 Status of Women Report shows that women are lagging behind in some key economic indicators. Legislation is also being debated at all levels of government that affect the well-being of women. The Florida Association for Infant Mental Health (FAIMH) is bringing together Miami residents to join us to learn about children's mental health, including a screening of RESILIENCE, a powerful film about a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse and neglect during childhood. Trailblazers in pediatrics, education and social welfare are using cutting-edge science and field-tested therapies to protect children from the insidious effects of toxic stress—and the dark legacy of a childhood that no child would choose. Then, they are invited to stay for lunch and connect with providers and organizations in our community who are providing these critical mental health support services.
Coalition of South Florida Muslim Organizations (COSMOS) is inviting all South Florida Locals to take part of their open house to experience Iftar, the breaking of their fast during Ramadan. (Muslims fast from Dawn to Dusk for 30 days during the month of Ramadan -May 6th through June 5.) COSMOS is hosting this event to stand up against Islamophobia, present the true meaning of Islam and Muslim Culture, as well as giving locals the opportunity to connect with their Muslim neighbors. After breaking the fast with dates, water, and fruits, attendees will also observe a short moment of Muslim prayers and conclude with free dinner.

LEAP and The Thumb Fighter are bringing together South Florida locals for an evening of storytelling. Attendees will have the opportunity to share a 5 minute personal story of a time when they got a second chance. It doesn’t matter how big or small, we all have a story of a time when we got another shot.
Las Comadres is hosting an evening of true connection among people with differing political viewpoints. At a time when people seem more polarized and set in their views, we will host guided conversations based on our common ground: from childhood stories to relationships and traveling. We will boldly see the humanity in one another again with kindness, respect, and curiosity.
Girl Scouts is bringing together girls and women of all ages from South Florida for a multi-generational night of storytelling over a campfire with s'mores. We know there are thousands of Girl Scouts alums in South Florida but rarely do we have the opportunity for them to come together. We hope this event will be a way for girls and women of all ages and backgrounds to connect with each other and reconnect with their Girl Scout experience.
